There is something wholesome and emotive about a family tree, and it makes for a super sentimental gift your loved ones will appreciate as a gift.

Now we don’t mean you have to go all Inspector Gadget, as MyHeritage DNA can do it all for you. The brand has a DNA kit, which requires a small swab of inside your match, that matches your DNA with others.

However, the DNA is protected to avoid leaking your personal information (phew!) The data is simply used to match other DNA profiles to build your ancestry lineage.

When you have submitted your sample, you will receive your results in four weeks. This will include an ethnicity estimate, as well as insights on genetic groups living in areas for decades, to help trace your ancestors and understand more about your family tree, even connect with extended family members.

MyHeritage’s DNA kit usually retails for £79, but it has been reduced to £27, and this offer has been extended for a further three days.

The discount kicked off ahead of Black Friday, and it will come to an end on 7th December, so there is still time to shop for that special someone.

MyHeritage DNA Testing Kit

The MyHeritage DNA Testing Kit is an easy, affordable way to explore your ancestry and connect with relatives worldwide. Using a quick cheek swab, you send your sample to a certified lab and receive results in about three to four weeks.

The kit provides a detailed ethnicity estimate across 42 ethnicities and over 2,000 regions, plus insights into migration patterns and historical context. It also offers DNA matching to help you find relatives and integrates with MyHeritage’s extensive family tree tools and historical records.

Privacy is a priority – your data is encrypted, never sold, and you have full control, including the option to delete it anytime. The kit usually costs around £79, but discounts often drop the price to as low as £25 during major sales.

While it focuses on ancestry rather than health, it’s user-friendly, secure, and backed by a large global database.

If you’re unsure, then take note of TalkTV host Peter Cardwell’s MyHeritage journey.

Cardwell took the MyHeritage DNA test and found information about his ancestors he never knew.

His ethnicity estimate revealed 55.7% Scottish/Welsh heritage, and was briefed on the historical and societal changes at the time that may be behind this. He also discovered he is of royal descent. Turns out his mother’s McLaren family from Sixmilecross, County Tyrone, are connected to King William of Orange, evidence that is supported by newspaper clippings dating back to 1894.

Cardwell’s test also found he has roots in Roman Britain, which was highlighted through the Ancient Origins section of the DNA test. Cardwell’s DNA also highlighted a 32.8% Insular Celt connection that revealed roots in Ireland, Scotland and Wales

Interestingly, Cardwell’s DNA flagged touching personal stories. He discovered his great-uncle, Robert Charles McLaren, was a Sergeant Navigator in the Royal Air Force, but he tragically died in 1944 during WWII aged 20.

On a brighter note, his DNA test revealed 25,523 genetic matches across the globe, and connected him to relatives living in New Zealand.

MyHeritage’s DNA kit was also able to enhance a photograph of his great-great-grandmother, Annie Dunbar, which is quite special.

Speaking about his experience, and highlighting eight generations of his family tree, Cardwell said: “I found it fascinating. There’s a lot about my family I didn’t know, and of course a lot of relatives I didn’t know. And I was, to be honest, a little bit worried about where it was going to go. That was kind of an emotional experience for me.”

So, if you are keen to learn more about your family, find answers to questions you have had for years, and potentially connect with more family members, this is an affordable and time-saving option.
