Lidl unveils ‘iconic’ fashion collab set to rival sell-out croissant bag

In 2024, Lidl broke the internet with the release of their ‘Luxury Croissant Handbag’ ahead of London Fashion Week.

Customers flooded to the Patisserie Lidl pop-up, eager to get their hands on the sought-after accessory — a soft leather ‘paper bag’ style handbag with a magnetic rolltop closure, featuring two interchangeable straps, and a leather croissant coin purse (with a trolley coin holder).

For anyone who covets the supermarket’s superior bakery – filled with 10/10 chocolate brioche croissants and 69p cookies that are to die for – this was an important purchase.

And now, with LFW, one of the most important social and cultural events in the calendar, just around the corner, the German retailer is back with another unique creation.

Collaborating once again with Nik Bentel Studio, the art collective behind the croissant purse, Lidl has launched a Trolley Bag… which is exactly what it sounds like.

The Nik Bentel studio specialises in creating ‘whimsical’ and ‘thought-provoking’ objects and is known for creating viral pieces. And it’s safe to say that this new product is no different.

Crafted from ‘industrial stainless steel’, the Trolley Bag might not be a great purse for your gum or house keys, but it sure knows how to make a statement — sporting the immediately recognisable yellow and blue handlebar.

The bag also comes with a coin keychain fob that connects to Lidl trolleys for shopping in store, meaning wearers can make ‘any aisle their catwalk’.

Given that the Croissant Bag had so many of us in a chokehold, with the accessory selling out in two minutes on the Nik Bentel site, we bet shoppers will be looking forward to this new drop.

How can you get a Lidl trolley bag?

On February 20 and 21, the supermarket will be hosting a Lidl Fresh Drop in London.

The fresh grocery-inspired London Fashion Week event will give a limited number of attendees the chance to nab one of the coveted accessories.

To stand a chance at taking one home, all you have to do is try your luck on the specially created ‘fruit machine’ at the event.

I can already envision the entirety of East London lining up outside the event, desperate to parade the new in-thing up and down Dalston High Street.

For anyone who misses the event, a limited number of bags will be available via an exclusive ballot on the Nik Bentel website from 10 am on February 26.

And while some of the studio’s bags retail for over £200, the lucky customers who manage to snag the Trolley Bag will not have to pay a penny.

Talking about the collaboration, Nik Bentel, Founder of Nik Bentel Studios, said: ‘We couldn’t resist the chance to team up with Lidl again – there’s something so exciting about turning the most unexpected items into fashion statements – and it’s our bag through and through (pardon the pun).’

He added: ‘The Lidl “Trolley Bag” is our latest twist on the everyday food shop experience and is the ultimate shopping sidekick.

‘It’s playful, practical and made to stand out – whether heading out to the runway or to run errands.’

The Trolley Bag or the Croissant Bag?

Shortly after the new collaboration was launched on Instagram, shoppers started sharing their thoughts.

Some users immediately jumped on the bandwagon, deeming the Trolley Bag the ‘new IT accessory’, saying they were ‘obsessed’, and calling it ‘flawless’, ‘unreal’, and ‘iconic’.

One user even wrote: ‘We don’t even have @lidlgb where I live and I want one!’

However, some customers were more hesitant…. One individual in particular noted ‘The Croissant Bag was better!’

What do you think? Did Lidl outdo itself this year, or are we all still desperately in need of more bakery-themed bags to get us through the winter blues?
